Do You Twitter??

http://www.twitter.com

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “How do you explain Twitter?” from my other fellow “tweeps” while trying to pull new users into the addiction. With Twitter gaining attention in the news, and being mentioned television shows, I figured it was time to bring it here to my blog. I’m sure many of you will read this and think, “Huh? What in the heck is she talking about?”, but I know some of you will create an account and be sucked into the madness in no time! You can thank me later.;-)

According to Wikipedia, “Twitter is a social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users’ updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.”

So, in plain English, you post what you are doing, what you are thinking, what you are planning…whatever you want to post…in 140 characters or less. Those posts (tweets) are shared with the people that “follow” you. They can keep up with what you have to say, and even reply to you (in 140 characters or less, of course!). And you can follow people all over the world to see what they are tweeting about.

So, what’s the point? Well, I guess it’s different for everyone. Some people share about their personal lives, some use it as a networking tool for work, the media uses it to post news and connect with their readers/viewers, and businesses may use it to reach their clients or potential clients. For me, I like connecting with other photographers around the world, and following all the great people we have right here in Central Ohio. It’s also great to stay in touch with friends that live far away – then we can feel like we are still a part of each other’s daily lives.

You can update your Twitter feed on the web, or through one of the many available applications (most of them are free!). You can also update through your cell phone (with some great applications for Blackberry and iPhone users). I use TwitterBerry on my BlackBerry Curve!

The Twitter website has Help Resources for Getting Started and How-To Information.

There is an article in today’s Columbus Dispatch about Twitter:
http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/life/stories/2009/01/27/1_TWITTER.ART_ART_01-27-09_D1_56CKS5J.html (Yeah it’s an article out of Ohio.;-))

Metro Detroit tweeps can follow news stations like @local4news and @wxyzdetroit (along with some of their staff members, reporters, and anchors), Network Dearborn (@networkdearborn), @deepsaidwhat, @thehenryford, @RedWings, @mojointhemorn@DetroitVoice, and many other local organizations and businesses!

And of course, follow me! I’m @besekphoto – I’ll follow you back! Drop me a direct message to let me know who you are.

Do you Twitter? Post your username in the comments! Do you have other tweeps you love to follow? Share those in the comments with us, too! And if you have any questions about Twitter, just post those, too and we can help you!
