Fitness Photos – Dearborn Business Portraits

Business portraits are thought of to be standard head shot portraits.  This isn’t necessarily the case.  Business portraits need to be modified to each type of business being promoted.   For instance, I had the honor of photographing one of the personal trainers at the Dearborn Racquet and Health Club.   Linda has recently become certified Level II in kettlebell training.  She is an awesome trainer and knows how to teach proper form and technique when working out with kettlebells.  I know this, because I have trained with her.  One wrong move with these cast iron weights and you could really injure yourself.  I am lucky to have worked with her in the gym AND in my studio.
If you are looking for someone that can help take your weight loss to the next level or to merely tone up the great shape you already have, be sure to contact Linda at the club!

Here are just a few of my favorite shots!

Dearborn Public Schools Board of Education – Business Portraits

I work with School Life a publication that’s devoted exclusively to the Dearborn Public Schools.  It highlights student and staff achievement and relevant district information.  This august, I was honored to be asked to photograph the School Board members and the Superintendent to update their photos for the August issue of School Life – Their annual resource edition.

There’s a funny little back story to this multi-person/on-location session.   I had my bags and gear packed that morning.  All my batteries were charged, and tested. I was ready to go once evening arrived. I was photographing them before they had their board meeting that evening.  Everything was set….no problems at all!   Then the storm hit!  Wow! and it was quite a storm.  It blew for a good 45 minutes or so.  We lost power here at home.  It was a muggy day too.   As soon as the storm blew through we went outside to take a peek.  There were trees down everywhere.  We weren’t the worst of it either.  We took a drive around and it looked like a battlefield in most neighborhoods.  Most of west Dearborn was out of power….including the board office I was told.   No problem, I have my portable studio equipment all on battery power and I was charged up!  There was no time to put off the photos until the next meeting. We had a deadline and had to get these photos published in this next issue.

The meeting was set up in the lobby where they had lots of windows to light the room.   I set my equipment up to the side and got right to work.  The photos all turned out fantastic!

Dearborn, Michigan Memorial Day Parade

I live in Dearborn, Michigan.  It’s one of the greatest cities in southeastern Michigan.  It’s one of the few cities that has a true sense of community.  We have some pretty special events and one of them is the annual Memorial Day Parade!!!

This is a great time for families to get together to celebrate the start of summer and to reflect on the troops that are currently overseas, and of course the troops who gave their lives protecting our freedoms.

Here are the photos that I took this year while watching the parade with my family.  If you live in Dearborn, I am sure you will see familiar faces.  Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Civil War Remembrance – Dearborn Photographer

Yesterday the John and I took the kids to Greenfield Village.  We go almost every weekend during the summer whether I am working a session or not.  Memorial Day weekend is by far my favorite weekend there!  It’s Civil War Remembrance Days.  Re-enactors from all over come to set up camp and participate in act ivies that teach the visitors about the Civil War…such an important time in our history.  If you live in Michigan or in the mid-west, Greenfield Village is a must see on Memorial Day weekend!  We are looking forward to the display they have set up in the museum as well!

From The Henry Ford’s website:

A time to reflect. A time to celebrate. Greenfield Village’s most treasured signature event. Memorial Day weekend is filled with high emotions and vivid experiences as we honor veterans who fought and died to preserve our nation’s freedom. More than 450 military re-enactors create an authentic Civil War encampment for an observance filled with parades, artillery demonstrations and heartfelt 19th-century music. Kick off summer with a gathering that is reverent, reflective and triumphant.

Here are the photos I took as we walked around and submerged ourselves into this history of our country.   I decided the best way to view them was to add a treatment to them to give them the appearance of old photos from that era.  I took a photo journalistic view of the events of Greenfield Village yesterday morning.  I wish we could have stayed a few hours longer to see the artillery exhibition in Walnut Grove, but the kids were ready to go home and nap.  I threw in a couple of the kids (just snapshots really as I didn’t bother with placing them in correct light). We just love The Village!  It’s my favorite place to go with my own kids as well as with clients for their portrait sessions!  There are so many places to go and so many different textures.  It’s a treasure trove to me as a photographer.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.  Tell me about your visits to Greenfield Village or The Henry Ford Museum.
